This WordPress.com site is to provide a location to upload a daily image. In particular I would like to be able to showcase the beautiful city of Newcastle Australia but additionally keep a daily photographic blog. I will also post images of past experiences and travels.
Dudley beach is located South of Newcastle and is part of the Glenrock Conservation area. It is largely unspoiled and is a popular destination for swimmers and beach goers.
In the cliffs South of Newcastle beach is the Bogey Hole. It was cut into ocean rocks by convict labour in 1819. You can see the convicts amazing achievement when you see the waves crashing into the pool.
The Bogey Hole was constructed by order of Commandant Morisset in about 1820 for his own personal use. Morisset was Commandant of Newcastle from 1819 to 1822. It was known, originally as the “Commandants Baths”.
The Bogey Hole is a heritage-listed sea bath in Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. It is thought to be the oldest surviving European construction in the city area.
The name “Bogey Hole” was applied afterwards and comes from the indigenous word meaning ” to bathe.
